and THAT is why you wade through the good, the bad, and the ugly posts. From all that input, you pick and choose the things that are not about the sale, but about the 'smart'. Many, if not most, the suggestions are not based upon what we may like, but based upon what would 'sell'.

no I know a lot of folks are right in their suggestions, in the end it is what I can afford and what I really like that matters. Can the 'answers' sometimes be totally off base, and still be right? Sure. I hang out here, not because I necessarily want more help (although I continue to learn more each time I log in), but more because I am hoping to give something back for that help. heh I, for one, have benefited from every single post I have read. These threads are good.so long as they are not all the time. It is also a great way to learn how folks like to deal with questions and how readers like to deal with those answers. sometimes ya gotta have a thread like this so folks can blow off some steam and say things they want to say in other threads. For sure, a thread like this helps us understand folks better and help keep us civil the other 99% of the time. Linda Here is a link that might be useful: My birdhouse album There's a link at the bottom to more of my birdhouses. The birdhouse made from a Burro sawhorse has a bicycle gear attached for hanging. The chain ends are then screwed into the side of the birdhouse, right under the roof. You can see that a hole is drilled through the roof just large enough for the chain to pass through. The birdhouse with the yellow bird has a chain hanger. The sign has a plumbing type chain attached for hanging. The birdhouses are just screwed on to it. Here are a couple of birdhouses, and one sign I made. The bigger the roof, the better, so making the metal or shingles overhang beyond the roof edge is better protection from the weather. Just attach right on top of the existing roof. You can use metal flashing, metal from any type of food or beverage cans, roof shingles or anything waterproof. Any birdhouse that is the type Michaels sells should have a better roof before being out in the weather, as they tend to waste away quickly outside.
